Episode Recap
There is a brief moment of silence as the icy winds begin to ruffle her hair and clothes. Unfortunately, he jumps over the parapet. Greybourne goalkeeper Hector is startled by the sound of the powerful shot and runs towards it in disbelief. When he arrives at the scene, he discovers a woman lying motionless in a pool of her own blood. Alice Greybourne Ward breathed her last.
Half a year after the tragedy, Elena Santos arrives at the Greybourne building, ready to take on the role of nanny for Jasper Ward, the son of Matthew Ward and the late Alice Greybourne Ward. The building's janitor, Hector, accompanies her to the Chambers' apartment, where she meets Matthew and her sister-in-law, Tori Ayres.
However, with no previous babysitting experience, Tori informs Elena that she will be notified if she is selected for the job. Disappointed, Elena returns to the apartment she shares with her boyfriend, Scott Macedo. It is there that the truth is revealed: they plan to use Elena's newfound position as a cover to steal a precious ruby hidden in the Greybourne building. This Tory offers her the position of Jasper's nanny. The couple's plan continues.
The next day, Elena arrives at Greybourne with her belongings, where she is greeted by Cecil, the building's second doorman, who proves to be friendlier than Hector. On her way to the Wards' apartment, she encounters two young girls, Bennet and her sister Darcy, who are half-relatives to Jasper. He also meets Mrs. Ivey, who he learns is Alice's aunt, all of the building's residents. Bennet and Darcy kindly show Elena to her room and help her get settled. That night, while talking to Scott, Elena hears a faint voice and goes out into the hallway.
While exploring the corridor, Elena encounters a man named Elliot who lives in the Greybourne building but often comes to this particular area to smoke. They form a friendship, and Elliot confides in her about the many deaths that have occurred in the building, including suicides, murders, and accidents, including Alice's. He explains that no suicide note was found in his apartment. Elliot also warns Elena about her basement, which she believes has an evil presence.
On her first day as a nanny, Matthew introduces Elena to Jasper, and she quickly befriends the young man. During a trip to the park, Elena meets two other babysitters, Kim and Alex, who seem friendly but are hiding something from her about the Greybourne building. That evening, while Jasper is playing with his legos and Matthew is still at work, Elena takes the opportunity to search for the ruby. He discovers a map of the entire building created by Matthew, an architect, and takes a few photos before Matthew returns.
During the conversation with Elena, Matthew begins to suspect her and realizes it. Nevertheless, his shift for the day was over and he left without saying a word. In the hallway, he runs into Tori's assistant, Candace, who is feeling sick and calling it quits for the day. Remembering what Matthew told her about Tori throwing a party, and considering that she might need help in Candace's absence, Elena decides to help her and knocks on Tori's door on the same floor.
Initially hesitant, Tori is eventually persuaded by Elena, who allows her to explore the apartment and search for the ruby.
At the party, Matthew takes Elena aside and starts questioning her about her past. He discovered that he had not actually attended Boston College as he had claimed. Elena explains that she couldn't go to college because she had to take care of her younger brother after her mother died and she had to find a job to support them. He apologizes for lying about his college education and promises to tell the truth from now on.
Later, while on the sidewalk with Jasper, the kid suddenly tries to shoot an arrow across the street and Elena saves him from being hit by a car. Back at the Wards residence, Tori is furious with Elena, but Mrs. Ivey comes to her defense, revealing that she witnessed Elena saving Jasper. Elena decides to thank Mrs. Ivey and brings her some pastries.
Mrs. Yves had her reasons for wanting to save Elena's job. He invites Elena to his apartment and reveals that he is aware of Elena's disguise (although the extent of his knowledge of Elena's motivations at Greybourne is unclear). Mrs. Ivey doesn't ask Elena about this, but instead asks Elena to be her informant at Greybourne. Ms. Ivey believes her niece Alice's death was murder, not suicide. Elena's first task is to control Matthew Ward, the only person to receive the eight-figure sum after Alice's death.
That evening, Elena decides to go into the basement to look for the ruby. He sneaks past two guards, Cecil and Hector, who are in the middle of a heated argument and heads down to the basement.
Episode Review
This was quite an episode and I enjoyed every moment of it. These characters are very interesting, especially Mrs. Ivey and Tori. It's hard to know their next move or what they're thinking or really capable of. Tori may be secretly in love with Matthew and use his nephew as an excuse to be close to him.
Scott being a cop was a twist we didn't see coming and it makes the story more interesting. No one is who they say they are on this show, and it's no wonder people keep dying. You know what they say, if one dies, two can keep a secret.
